Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Jacqui. I spent my childhood in dance studios, devoted my high-school days to cheerleading and disco, and then all but disappeared into a labyrinth of books for over a decade. One day during graduate school, a friend invited me to the local YMCA. They were featuring a new form of exercise called “Step Aerobics.” As soon as the instructor strapped on her mic and called out “Basic right!” I was transported to that magical world of music, mirrors, and movement that I must have been missing since my days at the Lowe Dance Studio and Jazz Unlimited in South Jersey. Fast forward to 2013. I now teach thirteen fitness classes a week in various health clubs in Philadelphia: yoga, weight training, cycling, and several Les Mills formats – Body Combat, Sh’bam, and Body Jam.
While it might seem that I must spend all my days and nights in gyms, as the saying goes, “You can take the girl out of the library, but …” you see where I’m going. When I’m not motivating people to become healthier, stronger, and fitter, I try to do something similar for their minds (it seemed silly to spend nine years in graduate school without collecting a few advanced degrees). So if your college-aged child or friend emails you about a “crazy energetic” writing professor who “can you believe she assigned us a Disney movie for class?!?!?” that would be me.
In addition to fitness and health, I am passionate about travel and food. Ideally, I like to combine the two. So while the focus of this blog will be health and wellness, don’t be surprised if I blog from or about one of my exciting adventures.
Thanks for stopping by!
